Behind the Making of MOJITO - RADIO RELEASE - 2/22

RADIO RELEASE OF MOJITO

There are a few DJ friends already playing Mojito, and I thank you! The tune was originally released with my debut EP. What makes Mojito so special? As a writer… lyricist... songwriter... when I penned the words that would later become the song Mojito, it was a moment of discovery, of finally accepting this gift, acknowledging what I had, with the confidence it deserved. “Songsmith” …my mentor called me a songsmith “a person who writes popular songs”... perhaps this was prophetic in telling me this before these words came to me... it was in that moment also that I realized that anything could inspire an emotion... for me that day, it was a very simple happy hour drink - mint, lime & simple syrup... that’s it!(and Rum, of course…) And from it came the words that flowed... at the time of my writing those lyrics, I was waiting on my family to join me for my Mom’s birthday celebration... I had fallen in love with my music, the joy it brought me, the escape, the freedom...I was finding myself...thus the lyric... “opening up my soul and freeing my heart to have enough courage” to be myself! And the funny thing about my head bopping to a crazy beat... I didn’t have the beat yet. In fact, I barely knew my producer at the point in time. Art is amazing like that...upon hearing the beat though, I had to have it! In sifting through all the writing I had been doing, I stopped at the words written on October 11.  The song came together...I still recall standing in Corey’s apartment as I phrased out my lyrics and came up with a melody... He approved right there. The beat consumed me, truly it did... I continued tinkering with the lyrics and finished the chorus as I traveled to Monterey for business later that month... Mojito was the 3rd tune I recorded from my EP and perhaps the most fun. Darryl infused a vocal collage in what was going to be an instrumental.  He said to me “Indulge me” and I said okay... he went to work and what he wrote invokes a whole mood and we loved it! I’m so proud to have him as my co-writer. Once he finished the mix, he said, use good earphones, all I could do was smile, it was amazing! I hope you experience the same joy and love when you listen to Mojito.  It is a very special record about having someone, something special in your life that changes your life completely... you’re a little torn, but your heart says absolutely not, not letting it go - so might as well drink up that Mojito.
